Layered Banana Cream Dessert Tiramisu

Although the dish may have the word “tiramisu” in the name, it’s layered with graham crackers instead of the traditional ladyfingers. There’s also no coffee involved like with the more traditional form of the dessert. This not only makes it more kid-friendly but also easier to assemble!

Tips for making this tiramisu

I simplified this recipe and used only common ingredients so that it can be made quickly and easily.

You can use caramel dip or caramel ice cream topping, whichever you prefer. In fact, if you want to get all fancy you may even want to make your own caramel sauce. It’s totally up to you on which one you’d like to choose!

Layered Banana Cream Dessert TiramisuI ask that you use an 8×11 dish to make this recipe because it can make quite a bit of serving sizes to feed a crowd, but if you don’t have one readily available you can choose to use two 8×8 square dishes instead. You may need to make 3 layers in each pan instead of two so that you can use up all of the ingredients.

To Freeze or Not to Freeze: The dessert is delicious served straight from the fridge after it’s been able to sit for a few hours. However, I also loved it when it was partially frozen! I found it easier to serve and loved how it almost tasted like it had ice cream in it. I suggest refrigerating it, then putting it in the freezer for about an hour prior to serving. Then cut and serve with bananas and a drizzle of caramel on top.

Layered Banana Cream Dessert TiramisuHow Long Does Banana Pudding Keep in the Refrigerator?

Pudding can last on average about 2-3 days in the fridge before it begins to show signs of going bad. If you notice a little liquid separation that’s normal, but if it’s accompanied by any sharp flavors or smells, you know it’s no longer good and should be avoided.

Not to mention, this dessert tastes best fresh and letting it “exist” for too long can cause the graham crackers to get incredibly soggy. So make sure to keep your uneaten pudding treat covered, in the fridge and eat it quickly.

Layered Banana Cream Dessert TiramisuWhat Keeps Bananas from Turning Brown in Banana Pudding?

If you’d like to keep your bananas from oxidizing and turning a brownish color, you can brush the banana slices with a little lemon juice to prevent browning. Just remember not to use too much or else it could affect the overall flavor of the dish.

Another suggestion would be to use a spritzer and spray the slices with lemon juice so that it’s not applied too heavily.

How Ripe Should Bananas Be for Banana Pudding?

With baked goods you want your ripe bananas to be almost completely black to create the awesome sweet and flavorful banana power you’re looking for. For this banana cream recipe, you’ll do just fine with a yellow or slightly spotted banana as it is much easier to cut and won’t be as bitter as a banana that’s still somewhat green.

Does This Recipe Need to Be Refrigerated?

Yes, absolutely. When not being eaten this dessert should be contained within the fridge. Keeping it at room temp for too long will cause it to melt and become unsafe for human consumption. Make sure to keep it covered when in the fridge for best results.

Layered Banana Cream Dessert TiramisuCan You Put Banana Pudding in the Freezer?

You can make it and place it in the freezer! In fact, I actually think it’s better frozen. Not only does it cut prettier and look great on a plate instead of a soft sloppy mess, but it also gives a reminiscent texture of ice cream which is incredibly cool.
