Chia Fresca

After my little experiment with Spa Water, I wanted to try something else out. While I enjoy the Spa Water… I wanted something that I could toss together quickly in the morning, and that perhaps appealed further to my senses with some fruit.

I had remembered seeing something about adding chia seeds to water as a drink a while back and knew that I had some stored away in my pantry.

What’s a chia seed and why eat them?

Chia seeds are incredibly healthy and can often go unnoticed when added to foods. They help promote weight loss by curbing your appetite and help you feel fuller longer. These seeds also lower blood pressure, help regulate you blood sugar, and are full of omega 3 to help reduce inflammation.

They contain 2x the potassium of bananas, 2x the protein of any other grain or seed, 3x the iron of spinach, 3x the antioxidant strength of blueberries, and 5x the calcium of milk. Not to shabby for a tiny little seed, hm?

I really can’t say enough good things about chia seeds.

Now, this is one of those recipes that my mom gave me fits over. I’ve been trying to get her to try one of these since I started to drink them. I got more than one eye roll over the idea. Finally on Christmas Eve she gave it a try and then proceeded to steal my drink from me for the rest of the day. She even made my dad try it!

The Skinny:
Servings: 1 • Size: 4 Cups • Calories: 125.8 • Fat: 1.5 g • Carb: 30.6 g • Fiber: 3.8 g • Protein: 1.5 g • Sugar: 23.5 g • Sodium: 1.8 mg

Ingredients:
4 C. Cold Water
1 Medium Lemon, Half Juiced & Half Sliced
1/2 C. Fresh Fruit (I used Strawberries, Blackberries, and Pomegranate.)
1 Tbsp. Honey
2 Tsp. Chia Seeds

Directions:
Fill a large container with water. Add all of the ingredients and give it a good shake.

Enjoy through the day!

*Note: You will want to shake this up between drinking it, otherwise towards the end of the bottle you’ll be left with a thick ‘chia slurry’… which is fine – but not exactly drinkable.
