Crock Pot Ham is my go-to recipe for when I’m preparing a holiday ham. Cooking for the holidays doesn’t have to be labor intensive and time consuming! This ham recipe takes just a few minutes to prepare, and then you can be on to fixing the next dish.

I first tried this recipe several years ago on Christmas. I was taking a bit of a risk- I mean, the holiday dinner could have gone very wrong, however it was a complete success! Since then I plan on cooking all hams in the crock pot as it frees up the oven and produces a deliciously juicy ham. I use the word “cooking” but really, any ham you buy in the grocery store is pre-cooked, so all you really need to do is warm it up. However warming up a 10-lb piece of meat without drying it out is easier said than done. Hence the crock pot method- it’s the perfect environment for tender, juicy ham.

I recently made this recipe in the Instant Pot and WOW- if you have an Instant Pot, you’ve got to try it! It made the juiciest ham ever and took a grand total of 40 minutes. Yep! That’s it. I love my Instant Pot!

Making a ham in the slow cooker is super simple! When you purchase ham from the grocery store it’s actually already cooked, so really, what you’re doing in the slow cooker is heating it up and infusing some flavor. My slow cooker ham recipe is just 4 ingredients. I like to use boneless ham simply because they’re incredibly easy to slice and serve. Remove the ham from the packaging and make sure it fits in your crock pot. If it doesn’t, you can cut it into portions until it does. Open the can of sliced pineapple and pour the juice into a 2 cup measuring cup. Arrange the pineapple slices either on top of the ham, in between ham slices, if you’ve opted to pre-slice it, or both.

Measure out the ground cloves and brown sugar into the 2 cup measuring cup and whisk until it’s incorporated into the pineapple juice. Pour the mixture on top of the ham.

Cooking time will vary depending on how large your ham is and if it has a bone in it. If you have a small 2-4 lb ham, you’ll only need to cook it on low for 2 hours. I used a 7-lb portion of my 10-lb boneless ham and I cooked it for 4 hours. Bone-in hams will need 5-6 hours to fully heat up.

Remove ham from the slow cooker and serve immediately. I love drizzling the juice on top once it’s on the serving platter!

How to make holiday ham in the crock pot or instant potHow to Make the Best Crock Pot Ham

  • I like to pre-slice my ham so that I can put pineapple in between slices. It’s easier to cut a boneless ham, but use what you like!
  • Growing up we always cooked ham with whole cloves. However, since ham is already cooked and we’re just aiming to heat and infuse flavor, I find that using ground cloves does this better.
  • Save the juice once you’re done cooking the ham and drizzle it over the top, once you place the ham in a serving dish.
  • Candied cherries are just fun! Plus they make this holiday ham look gorgeous, so I love using them.

Here’s what you need to make my recipe for Slow Cooker Ham

  • 2-7 lb ham, boneless or bone-in
  • 1 20-oz can sliced pineapple
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground clovesCrock Pot Ham is my favorite holiday ham recipe! Just 4 ingredients and can be made in the crockpot or Instant Pot. How to Cook a Ham in a Crock Pot

  1. Place ham in the crock pot. Ham from grocery stores is pre-cooked, so if your ham doesn’t fit, simply cut a portion off and refrigerate it or freeze it for later use.
  2. Open the can of sliced pineapple and drain the juice out into a separate bowl. You will use all of the juice! Measure out your 1/3 cup of brown sugar and add it to the pineapple juice, whisking to dissolve. Add in the 1/2 tsp of ground cloves and whisk to combine.
  3. Arrange the slices of pineapple all over the surface of your ham and in between slices. Place candied cherries inside the pineapple. Pour the pineapple juice mixture on top.
  4. Replace the lid on the crock pot and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours. I had about 7-lbs of my 10lb ham in the crock pot and I cooked mine for 4 hours. It was super moist and had a lovely sweet flavor. Bone-In hams will take 5-6 hours to fully heat up. If you have a smaller, 2-4 lb ham, aim for around 2 hours of cooking time.

Crock Pot French Dip | 101 Cooking For Two by Gordon Ramsay

An easy recipe for crock pot French dip sandwiches that are melt in your mouth tender and bursting with wonderful taste. Easy to follow step by step photo instructions. A casual dining delight.

A Two Short Paragraph Story (skip if you want):

I came home from work last week, and my wife was smiling… an “I have an idea” smile. She shows me a nice looking beef roast and dummy me said ok roast beef for Sunday family company and I started talking side dishes.

She interrupted saying that “you’re doing French dip.” Now I love French dip, and it has become my standard lunch if we’re out and about. And I have become a real critic. She even had the recipe… now I didn’t have the ingredients for that recipe, so a little Google and I had a plan.

Start with a nicely trimmed beef roast. Brown to get some Maillard reaction, cook in a crock pot in a nice juice. Then slice about 2 hours before done and finish cooking for ultra-tender wonderfully tasty meat.

Serve on a hoagie bun after topping with cheese and browning under the broiler. Finally, serve the cooking juice for dipping.

My Rating
My rating system. Great 5 out of 5

My wife has already awarded it the recipe of the year.

Pro Tips: Recipe Notes for Crock Pot French Dip

The Beef:

Your beef roast needs to be nicely trimmed, so you don’t have to pick out uneatable things. And it has to have good marbling to be tender.

We had a nice top round roast, but an eye of round would be nice. Some recipes called for a chuck roast, but then more trimming would be needed at the slicing time.

I think it is great to brown the meat some and also precook the onions a bit although a lot of the crock pot French dip recipes skipped these steps.

The Cheese:

Use a mild creamy type of cheese for French Dip Sandwiches like provolone cheese which is my choice as the best choice. Mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese would also be good choices but avoid strongly flavored cheeses like sharp cheddar which will mask the flavor of your sandwich.

Miscellaneous Tips:

  • The Worcestershire Sauce and soy sauce makes the beef stand up and scream beef.
  • Beef broth has improved a lot in recent years and is worth using.
  • The beef is cut across grain just to make it easier to shred after it is cooked a few hours more. You don’t want long strands of beef.
  • The liquid in the crock pot is the perfect dipping sauce.
  • Store meat and juice seperately. Good in refigerator for 3-4 days. Also should freeze well.

Recipe Notes

Pro Tips:

  1. Choose a beef roast that has some marbling. But avoid a roast that has too much connective tissue that you will need to sort out later.
  2. The crock pot needs to be big enough for the beef to fine with some space around it. 3 1/2 qt or above will probably be fine depending on shape of meat and the crock pot.
  3. Brown the beef before adding to the crock pot will add good flavor to the beef.
  4. Cook the onion a bit before adding to crock pot.
  5. Cut the beef across the grain.
  6. Use the cheese of your choice but provolone cheese is my first choice followed by mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese. avoid strong cheeses like sharp cheddar.

EASY CROCK POT HAWAIIAN CHICKEN by Gordon Ramsay

EASY CROCK POT HAWAIIAN CHICKEN

Easy Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken is the perfect blend of sweet and savory with a delicious burst of pineapple flavor. This Hawaiian Chicken recipe only requires 4 ingredients and results in fork tender chicken that falls apart when it’s ready!

This Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken is very simple but my whole family loves it and it’s easy to serve with rice and a vegetable on the side for a well-balanced meal. All you need is chicken, pineapple juice, soy sauce and brown sugar – all ingredients that are easy to keep on hand! And the tropical pineapple flavor is amazing – maybe not quite as good as actually being in Hawaii, but as close as I can get these days so I’ll take it!

Easy Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken is the perfect blend of sweet and savory with a delicious burst of pineapple flavor. This Hawaiian Chicken recipe only requires 4 ingredients and results in fork tender chicken that falls apart when it's ready!

I absolutely love slow cooker meals because dinner time is such a busy time at my house. I have 5 kids and we have a lot of after school activities, making it really tricky to be home long enough to prepare much of a dinner when it’s time to eat! I love being able to put a few ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, turn it on and then have dinner all ready when we all get home starving.

This Hawaiian Chicken recipe can be made with fresh or frozen chicken tenders, although it can be made with fresh or frozen chicken breasts as well. The chicken cooks in about 7-8 hours on low, or 3-4 hours on high. The recipe is very forgiving – sometimes I leave the chicken in for an extra hour or two if we aren’t ready to eat and that’s totally fine!

Ingredients in Easy Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken

-2 lbs. fresh or frozen chicken tenders (or chicken breasts)

-1 cup pineapple juice

-1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce

-1/2 cup brown sugar

How to make Easy Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken

Place the chicken tenders in the Crock Pot and then add the pineapple juice, soy sauce and brown sugar. Place the lid on the slow cooker and turn on low for 7-8 hours or 3-4 hours on high. I find that the chicken is a little bit more tender when cooked on low, but it is delicious either way!

At the end of the cooking time, remove the lid and shred the chicken with two forks. The meat should pull apart very easily and should all be shredded and ready to eat within a few minutes!

How to thicken sauce with cornstarch

The sauce is delicious but ends up being pretty thin so if you’d like to thicken up the sauce, that can be done very easily with a little bit of cornstarch and water.

About 30 minutes before you are ready to eat, turn the slow cooker to high heat. In a small bowl, mix 2-3 tablepoons of cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold water. Mix together with a fork until the cornstarch is dissolved and then add to the sauce and chicken. Give a few quick stirs and then replace the lid.

The mixture should start bubbling a little bit and will thicken up perfectly in about 20-30 minutes. You can use two forks to shred the chicken – it should pretty much fall apart at this point! Turn the slow cooker to low or warm until ready to serve. For an even thicker sauce, use a little bit more cornstarch with the water before adding to the chicken.

What to serve with Hawaiian Chicken

Hawaiian chicken pairs very well with rice. I usually just make plain rice to go with it but it is absolutely delicious with Coconut Rice recipe! Pineapple is a wonderful side dish because of the pineapple flavor in the chicken, although any tropical fruit (papaya, mango, etc) would also go very well with this Hawaiian chicken recipe. Most green vegetables also complement this dish very well – broccoli, asparagus, green beans or even a nice side salad would work well.

How to make perfect rice in the Instant Pot

This Hawaiian Chicken is best served on top of rice. For years, I made rice in a rice cooker which works well but when I got my Instant Pot and realized how well it worked for making rice, I got rid of the rice cooker. My kitchen isn’t very big and I don’t have room for too many gadgets at once!

After a little bit of experimentation, the Instant Pot cooks rice perfectly every single time! You can use the Rice button on your instant pot, but I have found the rice to cook even better when using the following method. I just use a regular long grain white rice.

  1. Add the rice and water to the Instant Pot at a 1:1 ratio. 1 cup rice? Add 1 cup of water. 4 cups of rice? 4 cups of water. No matter how much rice you have, the ratio stays the same.
  2. Seal the Instant Pot and cook the rice on high pressure for 3 minutes.
  3. Let the pressure naturally release. This will take about 10-15 minutes but results in perfectly cooked rice! If you quick release, the rice won’t be done and if you cook the rice longer because you want to quick release, the rice will be mushy.

With the time that you need to allow the Instant Pot to get to pressure, the cooking time and the time to naturally release the pressure, it takes about 30 minutes to cook the rice. Not much faster than a rice cooker but so nice to be able to cook rice without having to keep an eye on it AND also being able to use an appliance that can do so many more things!

I actually got a small Instant Pot several months after getting my larger one – that way if I’m using the larger one to make the main dish, I can use the smaller one for rice. Absolutely love it – the 3 quart one works great for rice!
