Christmas Cookies covered in Sprinkles

Sprinkle cookies are a favorite at my house for a few reasons. First, they come together so quickly. We are talking out of the oven in under 20 minutes! Especially if you have little helpers, kids absolutely love rolling the cookie dough into the sprinkles.

You’ll enjoy how easy it is to make a festive dessert with this sprinkle cookie recipe. Simply change the color of the sprinkles for an entirely new holiday! Check out my Halloween Sprinkle Cookie recipe for a great example .

Where is the best place to buy Holiday Sprinkles?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, purchase your sprinkles in bulk for CHEAP from your local grocery store’s bakery! Yes, really! Most bakeries will sell you seasonal sprinkles for a fraction of the price! I purchased 2 cups of sprinkles for under $4.00!

Best news yet, sprinkles keep well for a really long time! Buy in bulk once and you will be set for quite a while! 🙂

You can also find great holiday mixes down the baking isle at craft stores like Michael’s or Joann’s.

How to make Christmas Sprinkle Cookies

To make the Sprinkle Cookies we will start with the cookie dough. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. You can do this with either a stand mixer or electric hand mixer. I tend to use my stand mixer but either will work.

After the butter and sugar is combined, add in the eggs and vanilla extract. This cookie has a great vanilla flavor you are going to love! The last ingredients to go into the bowl are flour, baking powder and salt. Combine until the dough forms. The dough will be soft, you should be able to scoop and roll easily without the dough sticking to your hands, though.

Scoop, roll and then shake those sprinkles on! I just place the ball of dough in a bowl alongside the sprinkles and roll the dough until it is covered with sprinkles.

Bake the cookies at 350° for 9-10 minutes on either a silicone liner or parchment paper lined cookie sheet for best results. If you don’t have either of these, make sure to grease your cookie sheet.

Be sure to pull the cookies out of the oven before the edges start turning brown to guarantee a nice soft and chewy cookie.

Can I freeze my sprinkle cookies?

Yes, these cookies freeze really well. I suggest freezing the cookies on a cookie sheet for 1 hour prior to putting them into a freezer zip top bag, this will help keep the cookies from freezing together, also making it easier to just thaw one at a time.

Halloween Cookie Decorating

I know I am not the only one who likes to make desserts that coincide with holidays. Halloween is no different. Whether this means rolling and cutting sugar cookies and carefully decorating with royal icing or simply making spooky chocolate covered pretzels, we are cut from the same cloth and can officially be friends.

For me personally, the majority of the time simplicity wins. Can I tell you how simple Sprinkle Cookies are? Sprinkles are my favorite way to decorate any cookie. The cookie immediately looks the part with no additional work! I call that a win!

Where is the best place to buy sprinkles?

I always buy sprinkles from my local grocery store’s bakery! I highly suggest looking into this. Not only do they always have great holiday mixes but are usually about half the price you would expect! When I purchased these black and orange sprinkles I paid $2.15 for 1 1/2 cups of sprinkles!

You can also find festive sprinkles on the baking aisle, or near the holiday section of your grocery store. Craft stores like Michael’s & Joann’s also have a great selection of holiday sprinkles!

Bake the Sprinkle Cookies

Bake at 350° for 9-10 minutes. To make sure that the cookies stay soft it is important to pull them out of the oven before they start turning brown on the edges. Just watch the tops of the cookies, pull them out when the tops are no longer glossy.

Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack.
