EASY BROWNIE RECIPE – Butter with a Side of Bread by Gordon Ramsay

Easy Brownie Recipe with only 5 ingredients and then topped with Hershey bars for the easiest frosting ever! This chocolate dessert is a classic favorite and this is by far the easiest brownie recipe I

Easy Brownie Recipe with only 5 ingredients and then topped with Hershey bars for the easiest frosting ever! This chocolate dessert is a classic favorite and this is by far the easiest brownie recipe I’ve ever made without using a mix!

I absolutely love brownies. I’ve tried a lot of mixes and I’ve tried a lot of recipes and mostly love them all! I saw this brownie recipe a while back and was so intrigued by the fact that there are only 5 ingredients in it – one of them being Hershey’s syrup! We always have Hershey’s syrup in the fridge (who doesn’t love chocolate milk?!) and so I decided to try it out.

The whole process is just as fast as using a mix- it all comes together in just a couple of minutes! Because of the Hershey’s syrup in the recipe, you don’t need oil, vanilla or cocoa powder which are common ingredients in brownies.

These brownies are amazing! They are a little bit different in consistency than a classic, fudgy brownie but the chocolate flavor is amazing. My favorite frosting for brownies has always been to use a Hershey bar and this works perfectly with this recipe! My husband commented that he actually liked these brownies better than regular ones because they “aren’t quite as rich so you can eat more of them.” I promise that they still have plenty of chocolate flavor – especially with the Hershey bar topping.

Ingredients in Easy Brownie Recipe

I love how few ingredients there are in this recipe. If you need a brownie recipe without oil, or one without vanilla, or without cocoa or baking powder or salt, this is perfect! You just need Hershey syrup along with basic ingredients – butter, sugar, eggs and flour! That’s it!

-1/2 cup butter, softened to room temperature

-1 cup sugar

-4 eggs

-16 oz. (1 1/2 cups) Hershey’s chocolate syrup

-1 cup flour

-3-4 regular sized Hershey bars for topping

How to make this Easy Brownie Recipe

This brownie recipe is the easiest to make because everything can be mixed together in one bowl and you don’t even need a bowl for the frosting! It’s the perfect one-bowl brownie recipe!

First you will need to mix the butter and sugar together with a mixer for about 2-3 minutes, until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and mix together. Add the Hershey’s syrup and the flour and continue to mix until well combined.

Prepare a 9X13 pan by placing parchment paper on the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Bake at 350° for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. If you want slightly thinner brownies, you can use a 10X15 jelly roll pan instead. If you use a jelly roll pan, only bake for about 25 minutes.

While the brownies are baking, you need to open the Hershey bars and break them up into the little squares. As soon as the brownies are done, turn the oven off and then place the Hershey bar squares all over the top -they don’t have to be perfectly lined up but if you are slightly obsessive-compulsive (like me!) then go ahead and put them in straight lines. You want a little bit of space in between each square.

Put the brownies back in the oven for just a minute or two. The Hershey bar squares will still be intact but should look shiny and have that slightly lighter color that indicates they are melted. Use a knife to spread them around until the brownies are evenly coated. I like to eat at least one brownie while the frosting is still warm and melty, but if you let them set for a few hours, the topping does harden a little bit and isn’t quite so messy.

The answer to getting every single brownie cut and looking perfect is parchment paper! I used to always get frustrated with brownies and other desserts that are made in a 9X13 pan because I felt like I was always destroying the entire first row trying to get them out of the pan! Then I discovered that if you use parchment paper, you can remove all the brownies from the pan and slice them perfectly without having to dig the first few servings out with a spoon.

If you don’t have parchment paper, you can just grease your pan like you usually do but you may have to sacrifice the first brownie or two before you can get perfectly cut squares out of the pan! I’ll be honest – sometimes I prefer to have eat the first one or two with a spoon so this isn’t such a bad thing!

Also, if you allow the brownies to cool completely, they will stay together better and not fall apart when cut. This particular brownie recipe is one of the easiest to cut into squares – the brownies stay intact much better than other recipes I’ve tried!

Easy Brownie Topping recipe

My favorite way to top brownies is with Hershey bars – it’s the easiest brownie topping ever! Only one ingredient needed for the perfect frosting for brownies – no mixing required! Just break the Hershey bars up into squares and place on top of the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven. Once the squares have completely melted through, spread them around to completely coat the top of the brownies.

Our sweet Icebox Lemon Pie is a family favorite. It’s creamy and perfectly tart with a bright lemon flavor. So easy to make as well as it just requires 4 ingredients!

Lemon Icebox Pie is a quick an easy frozen lemon dessert. This pie has a classic tart lemonade flavor & is made from only FOUR simple ingredients! Simple to make and everyone loves this sweet, creamy lemon pie.

What is an icebox pie?

An icebox pie is (as you could probably guess) a pie that is kept and stored in the freezer. Typically these pies are made with only a handful of ingredients usually including whipped topping as part of the pie base.

I really like freezer pies for a few reasons. First, if they are kept in the freezer, they can be made a head of time and will stay fresh for a couple weeks. Second, not much is more refreshing than a slice of freezer pie after being out in the sun all day long. (I know, it’s February. A girl can dream of sunshine though, right?)

In my opinion, this Lemon Cream Pie takes home the gold medal for both easy and delicious. That isn’t even the best news.. the flavor options are unlimited. Yes, you heard me right!

How can I change the flavor of my icebox pie?

In a lot of icebox pie recipes, frozen drink concentrate is used. For instance, frozen lemonade concentrate or orange juice concentrate. This recipe uses powdered drink mix (like crystal light). How many options did you debate between the last time you were at the grocery store?

The options are endless!

I am so excited to give this a try with raspberry or peach drink mixes!

How to make Icebox Lemon Pie

Making a freezer pie like this Icebox Lemon Pie is extremely easy. First thing you will do is stir an entire drink mix packet and can of sweetened condensed milk together. Like mentioned above, if lemonade isn’t your thing, you can substitute for any flavor of drink mix.

This is the large drink mix packet (the kind to make 2 quarts of lemonade) not the single serving packets.

lemonade drink mix for the freezer pie

Stir until completely combined. The mixture should not be gritty at all.

Next, fold in 4 oz of whipped topping. (pssst. that is 1/2 of a regular sized container!)

freezer pie, lemonade pie in the process of being made.

Once the mixture is completely combined, spread it in the bottom of a graham cracker pie crust. You can certainly make your own here, but I prefer to buy a store-bought one to keep this pie as simple and fast as possible.

Top the pie with the remains 4 oz of whipped topping and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.

Can whipping cream substitute whipped topping?

Yes, you can use real whipped cream instead of the whipped topping. To make whipped cream, just whisk 1.5 cup heavy whipping cream + 1/2 tsp vanilla + 1/4 cup powdered sugar together vigorously for about 3-5 minutes, until stiff peaks form. It’s easiest if you use an electric stand mixer or handheld mixer. Then proceed with the recipe as directed.

You’ll need to cover your Lemon Icebox Pie with plastic wrap and store it in the freezer. The recipe just requires 2 hours of freezing time until serving. If you make it ahead of time, you might want to let the pie sit on the countertop for about 10 minutes before serving so that it softens slightly.

How to thicken Icebox Lemon Pie

When you make the filling for your lemon pie, it will be soft and not hold shape. This is why your icebox pie requires freezing time. It will thicken and become more solid in the freezer. For this reason, you need to store icebox pie leftovers in the freezer.

Is chicken salad healthy?

Chicken salad is packed full of protein, fruits and vegetables, so yes, it is a healthy food option. I even substituted plain yogurt in for half of the traditional mayonnaise which adds even more protein and cuts down on fat and calories. I love adding the diced cucumber for an additional vegetable source, plus the crunch is delicious. If you want to make chicken salad even more healthy, serve it on whole grain high fiber bread, or serve it on leaves of lettuce, as a chicken salad lettuce wrap.

 Can you freeze chicken salad?

Theoretically, yes, you can freeze chicken salad but know that the texture will suffer once thawed out and served. The mayonnaise can separate slightly, so it’d be a good idea to stir thoroughly and then add in a tad more fresh mayo prior to serving. The cucumber and celery will lose much, if not all of their crunch once they’re thawed as well. So yes, you can freeze chicken salad, but really it tastes so much better if eaten fresh!

Can chicken salad be made a day ahead?

Yes, you can make chicken salad a day ahead of when you plan to serve it. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I actually think day old chicken salad tastes even better as it has had a chance for the flavors to meld! Just give your chicken salad a good stir and if the chicken has absorbed the moisture, you might want to add in a bit more mayonnaise or plain yogurt to compensate.

How long will chicken salad stay good in the refrigerator?

Chicken salad will stay good for 5-7 days if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. My favorite airtight containers are Snapware. I’ve found that when I use Snapware, the foods generally stay fresh for at least 3-4 days longer than when you use regular tupperware.
