  1. Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
  2. Have your kids unwrap the Rolos for you. You can take it upon yourself to dispose of any imperfect looking ones or claim the parent tax as necessary.
  3. When applying the pecans, you want the rounded top facing up, as this creates the appearance of the turtle shell.

How to make Rolo pretzel candy

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Place your pretzels on a cooking sheet, so that they are neatly in rows, not touching, and not overlapping.

Unwrap your Rolos and place on in the middle of each pretzel.

Cook the pretzel for exactly 4 minutes in the oven.

As soon as the pretzels come out of the oven, place a pecan half on top and press it into the Rolo so that it sticks.

  • 2 cups Pecan halves 90 pecan halves
  • 12 oz bag Rolo candies about 90 pieces
  • 4 cups Mini Pretzels 90 pretzels

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line a cooking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Place about 30 mini pretzels neatly on a large cooking sheet so that none are overlapping.

  • Unwrap and place a single Rolo candy on each pretzel, right in the center.

  • Bake for exactly 4 minutes.

  • While the Rolos are still melted, place a pecan half over it and press down so that it sticks.

  • Let cool and then enjoy!

No Bake Pumpkin Pie is the easiest pumpkin pie recipe that I’ve ever made – it’s the perfect fall dessert! I love making this pumpkin pie recipe for Thanksgiving because I can make it a couple days in advance and keep it in the refrigerator until it’s ready to serve. Even if you aren’t a fan of traditional pumpkin pie, you have got to give this recipe a try!

  • 1 graham cracker crumb pie crust
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 (3.4 oz) pkgs. instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 15 oz. can pumpkin
  • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

How to make No Bake Pumpkin Pie

  1. Mix cream cheese, 1 Tbsp milk and 1 Tbsp sugar in a medium mixing bowl until smooth.
  2. Gently fold in the Cool Whip and spread on the graham cracker crust.
  3. Whisk the pudding mixes into the cup of milk until well blended and then stir in the pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice.
  4. Spread the pumpkin filling on top of the cream cheese layer and refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.  If desired, add a little whipped cream on top right before serving!

You can soften cream cheese by simply letting it sit on the countertop for 2-3 hours, until it comes to room temperature. Using room temperature cream cheese is vital. I don’t know if you are like me but I always forget to take the cream cheese out of the fridge! An easy way to soften the cream cheese is to use the defrost function on your microwave. Place the cream cheese, unwrapped, in a bowl, then select the lowest setting on defrost. Mine usually takes about 45 seconds. That’s it! Then proceed with the recipe.

Yes, you can use low-fat or even non-fat cream cheese in this recipe. There is enough flavor and texture added in with the pumpkin layer and the graham cracker crust, that you probably won’t even notice the difference!

How to Make Graham Cracker Crust

I usually use a pre-made graham cracker crust in this recipe, but you can definitely make your own too! Graham Cracker Crusts are so easy to make. I like to use my food processor to crush up 12 graham crackers and then add in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 3 tablespoons of melted butter and pulse until it is like sand. If you don’t have a food processor, this graham cracker crust can be done with zip top bags or just in a mixing bowl.

To make a graham cracker crust in a plastic zip top bag, first put in the graham crackers and crush by using your hands or rolling over the crackers with a rolling pin. Add in the brown sugar and melted butter and mix by rolling the bag between your hands until sand like mixture is formed.

To make graham cracker crust in a mixing bowl. Crush the graham crackers with your hand or the backside of a wooden spoon. Add in brown sugar and melted butter and mix until like sand.

Press the graham cracker crust into the bottom of an 9 inch pie pan, bake in a 375ºF oven for 8 minutes, until golden brown. Let the crust cool before adding the filling.

I got this recipe from my family’s cook book titled “The Ronnald Rose Family Favorite Recipes” that my grandparents had published back in 2006 and gave out as Christmas presents that same year. I can remember eating a bowl or two of this hearty chili during cool, crisp autumn evening dinners.  Now this recipe can warm up you and your family too.  I hope you enjoy this chili recipe as much as I did growing up.

How to make this hearty Home Style Chili recipe

To make this easy, hearty Home Style Chili recipe you will only need a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time.  First in a skillet, combine the ground beef, chopped up onion and salt and pepper.

Once the ground beef is browned, add in half of the chili powder and mix thoroughly.

In a large pot add the chili beans. The family recipe calls for chopping the beans, I skipped this and left them whole. That is my preference, you can chop the chili beans first if that’s what you prefer.

Add the meat mixture and diced tomatoes to the beans in the large pot. Mix all of the ingredients well and cook over medium heat. Once the chili starts to simmer, turn heat down to low. After about thirty minutes stir and taste.

If you prefer, this is the time you would add more chili powder to your taste. My wife and I always add the rest of the chili powder.  If you do add any more of the chili powder, continue to simmer for about fifteen more minutes.

Once the chili is done, serve warm with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle or two of cheese.  Enjoy!!

Can I use a different type of ground meat?

Yes, you can use whatever type of ground meat you prefer. I have made this chili recipe with ground beef, venison, elk, pork and turkey. There is no need to alter the cooking times if you are substituting a different ground meat, just follow the instructions as is.

What is a good side dish to go with this chili recipe?

My family and I usually only serve chili with a side of cornbread. My wife will even put a small piece of cornbread in her bowl and then scoop her chili over the bread and then top it with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle or two of cheese.  Other options you may want to try are some rice, French fries or tater tots.  Who doesn’t love chili cheese fries?

Can I freeze any leftover chili?

Yes, if stored properly you can definitely store any leftover chili in the freezer.  Make sure you store your leftovers in an airtight container or Ziploc style freezer bag. If stored properly, you can keep your leftovers frozen for a couple months. I have seen some people online storing it for longer, but I would err on the side of caution and wouldn’t keep it the freezer for more than a couple months. If you are going to store leftovers in your refrigerator, I would not keep it in there for more than three to four days.

What to do when Crockpot Chili is too spicy

It is totally okay if your Crockpot Chili gets too spicy! My kids have different spiciness tolerance levels, so I have had to find ways to make this Slow Cooker chili less spicy after it’s been made.

Firstly, add more beans. Adding more beans dilutes the spiciness and is a big plus if your kids are bean lovers like mine.

Secondly, add milk. It makes the chili creamier, and totally pulls back the spiciness level of the chili, and usually any other spicy dish.

Adding sour cream or cheese is my favorite way to dilute spice. I add sour cream and cheese to my chili anyway, but that’s just because I love the taste! However, if you find you chili’s spiciness level got too out of hand, just add some extra sour cream and cheese and it will totally take it down a notch.

Also, the sugar in the ketchup will take the spice right out of the chili, so it you have no more options, it’ll work.

What to do when my Homemade Chili is too thick

Adding beef broth is the best way to thin chili. Don’t add water; it will just take the flavor right out of your delicious dish. I prefer to add beef broth, but you can add vegetable broth if you prefer.
