Sandwich on a Stick

Sometimes… my little one gets tired of eating a sandwich in it’s usual form, and who could blame her? So sometimes I just have to get creative with what I already have on hand and planned out for the week.

One helpful tip I have recently fallen in love with, is to use dry spaghetti noodles in place of skewers for little ones. I know, right…? Super clever and a lot safer! This helps to keep from anyone getting hurt in the midst of lunchtime. Plus, they’re edible. Who doesn’t take a bite or two of a dry noodle when available?

I unfortunately did not have any dry spaghetti noodles left in my pantry today, so I used some wooden skewers instead. But, it didn’t matter too much since my little love was home with me and not at school today anyway!

Really you could use any sort of meat, cheese, or stackable vegetables on these sticks, but I decided to stick with Lily’s favorites. Well, aside for the tomatoes… she made me eat those. Other than that, she happily scarfed down all three skewers. Which, let me tell you, is an amazing feat. This girl eats like a bird on most days!

I wish that I had had some different shaped ‘small’ cookie cutters so that I could play with more than just the heart, but I think that it still turned out pretty cute anyway!

Had I actually been sending this particular set to school, I probably would have bought some more spaghetti noodles. I also would have made them half as large so that they would fit neatly into her lunch box. Other than that, it would all be the same.
